Poonam Prasad

Poonam Prasad is a nationally recognized fundraising strategist and the Founding President of Prasad Consulting & Research. Over the course of her career, she has worked with mission-driven organizations to secure billions of dollars in philanthropic support, advancing causes across the United States and internationally.
A trusted advisor to nonprofit leaders and boards, Poonam is known for her strategic insight, rigorous approach to prospect development, and ability to build high-performing fundraising programs. Her work has guided organizations through transformational growth, major gift initiatives, and complex capital campaigns. She has also been a pioneer in helping organizations raft major donor strategies for individuals and groups with differing cultural values and sensitivities, with campaigns and initiatives tailored to African-American, Chinese, Dutch-American, Hispanic, Korean, Scandinavian, South Asian, Sephardic, gay and lesbian, elderly, and female communities.
Beyond her consulting work, Poonam has had an enduring impact on the field through her leadership and mentorship across nonprofit and professional organizations. She currently serves on the board of the Giving Institute and taught for many years at Columbia University and New York University, where she inspired and helped shape the next generation of fundraising professionals.
In recognition of her distinguished career and lifetime of service to the profession, she was honored with the 2024 Chamberlain Award for Distinguished Service from the Association of Fundraising Professionals New York City Chapter.
As the first woman of color to serve as President of Women in Development New York, Poonam helped pave the way for greater representation and equity in the profession. Through her work, leadership, and unwavering belief in the power of philanthropy, she has left an indelible mark on the field—and on the countless organizations and communities she has helped to uplift.
