May Mark

May Mark is a director of philanthropic strategies for Fidelity Charitable®, an independent 501(c)(3) public charity that has helped donors support more than 461,000 nonprofit organizations with nearly $118 billion in grants.

The mission of Fidelity Charitable® is to grow the American tradition of philanthropy by providing programs that make charitable giving accessible, simple, and effective.

May joined the Private Donor Group in 2021. In her role, she advises Fidelity Charitable’s most generous donors on meeting their philanthropic goals in pursuit of social change. Her professional interests stem from her personal experience as a first-generation college student who benefited from opportunities funded by the generosity of invested individuals.

Prior to joining Fidelity Charitable, May was the director of school success at the XQ Institute, a national organization dedicated to rethinking the American high school experience. While at the XQ Institute, May managed a $120 million portfolio of investments in innovative high schools. She developed and activated a grants management strategy; created a learning infrastructure for grantees to share best practices; and curated success stories and learnings for board members, national stakeholders, and the American public.

Prior to that, May spent a decade supporting students, families, and educators. She started her career as the operations manager on the founding team of a charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Following her experience managing a school, she led a national program that supported the training, development, and growth of over 500 school leaders across 10 cities. Before completing her MBA, May was part of a tech startup focused on developing a mobile learning platform for students in emerging economies.
