Dr. Ruth C. Browne is a nationally recognized executive, board leader, and strategic innovator with over 20 years of experience driving transformation across nonprofit healthcare systems, public sector boards, and mission-driven organizations. She is actively seeking her first public company board appointment, with a particular focus on health sector companies and startups where her governance expertise, strategic insight, and CEO advisory experience can add immediate and lasting value. Currently serving as President and CEO of Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH-NY), Dr. Browne will transition from this role at the end of 2025. Her tenure has been marked by a bold transformation of RMH-NY’s 40-year-old hospitality model into a healthcare-adjacent organization offering capabilities, programs, and services at the intersection of health and hospitality. Under her leadership, RMH-NY has grown to manage nearly $100 million in reserves, engage a 52-member board of corporate leaders, and mobilize over 8,000 volunteers and 400+ strategic partnerships. Prior to RMH-NY, she served as CEO and Executive Director of Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.Her strategic fundraising efforts have generated over $87.4 million across two organizations.Dr. Browne’s board service spans more than two decades and includes leadership roles on hospital and healthcare boards that operate with the scale and complexity of public companies. She currently chairs the board of LiveOnNY, a top-tier organ procurement organization with over $81.7 million in annual revenue. As Vice Chair and now Chair, she supported the executive leadership team through a major transformation, elevated the organization’s national standing, and overseen strategic direction, governance, and CEO engagement.Her governance experience includes:

  • Chairing Audit and Governance Committees: At the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS), she chaired the audit committee and worked directly with the CEO to ensure financial integrity and compliance for an organization with $5.3 million in revenue.

  • CEO Search Leadership: At Interfaith Medical Center, she chaired the committee that selected a new CEO during a critical period of receivership, overseeing a $214.3 million budget and guiding the hospital’s recovery.

  • Regulatory Oversight and Medicaid Governance: At Public Health Solutions, she chairs the Social Care Network governance committee, providing fiduciary oversight for a major infusion of Medicaid waiver funds.

  • Startup Advisory Experience: She serves on the advisory board of Neotypica, a health-tech startup using AI to address social determinants of health, bringing her strategic and governance expertise to emerging innovation.

Dr. Browne is deeply familiar with the regulatory and reporting requirements of public entities and understands the importance of SEC-level transparency, audit rigor, and fiduciary responsibility. Her experience enforcing stringent policies and practices across diverse boards positions her as a valuable asset to public company governance.She is passionate about mission-driven work and brings a nuanced understanding of the time commitment and strategic demands of nonprofit boards. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplifies her crisis management capabilities, informed by her earlier work during the AIDS crisis at the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health, where she served as CEO prior to RMH-NY. Dr. Browne is also a trusted advisor to CEOs and C-suite leaders, offering strategic counsel, coaching, and partnership development expertise. She excels in digital transformation, organizational strategy, and fundraising, with a proven ability to build high-performing teams and negotiate complex partnerships.Her academic credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree from Princeton University, a Master of Public Health and Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Science from Harvard University School of Public Health. She currently holds faculty appointments at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Cornell University, and held faculty appointments at international institutions including the University of the West Indies and Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She is a three-time Fulbright Scholar and has been recognized by Mastercard/Harvard’s Innovative Leadership Series for her outstanding leadership.Dr. Browne’s career is distinguished by her ability to lead through complexity, drive strategic growth, and ensure effective governance across organizations of scale.
