Description

The Senior Director of Individual Giving (“Senior Director”) will provide management, oversight and strategic direction for the Individual Giving Program. Individual Giving is a critical component in growing the organization’s $11 million+ annual revenue.

This role will also serve as strategic lead on all events, including Hot Bread Kitchen’s annual spring Benefit, the organization’s primary fundraising event, which is a central driver of individual pipeline development.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Advancement Officer (CSAO), the role will strengthen the infrastructure needed to grow and diversify the organization’s individual donor base, including principal and major gifts, events, the annual fund, and engagement of the Young Professionals Committee.


Responsibilities

Individual Giving Program Leadership

  • Grow the individual giving revenue program, with a current annual raise of approximately $2 Million.

  • Collaborate with the CSAO to set annual fundraising goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Individual Giving team.

  • Create an optimized staffing plan for the Individual Giving team and oversee the day-to-day operations and execution of the team to drive toward annual goals. This will include hiring direct reporting roles for major gifts and events management.

  • Oversee data management systems and processes to track, analyze, and support individual giving strategies and donor moves management.

  • Lead performance management meetings with program leadership to drive continuous improvement and accountability.

Donor Engagement

  • Lead strategies to grow individual giving, with a focus on securing major multi-year gifts and managing a portfolio of principal donors. Ensure donors and prospects at all levels receive tailored, proactive cultivation and stewardship.

  • Provide strategic oversight to the Individual Giving team and cross-functional partners to establish effective donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Partner with the CSAO on board engagement, including giving strategy, prospect development, and meeting preparation.

  • Collaborate with the Brand team to develop compelling donor-facing materials and messaging.

Spring Benefit

  • Oversee the success and execution of the annual spring benefit. They will work directly with external event producers, while leading internal Development and Brand teams to implement a fundraising strategy to raise a $1MM+ goal, which will include:

    • Hiring an Event Manager and guiding them on all benefit communications, securing honorees, co-chairs, sponsors, and other stakeholders.

    • Supporting the development of a cohesive sponsorship strategy in collaboration with the Institutional and Brand teams.

    • Overseeing external event consultants to execute on weekly meetings, event logistics, vendor management and program design.

    • Collaborating cross-functionally with the Program and Executive Teams to communicate all event needs and priorities.

Organizational Leadership

  • Be an active member of the Leadership Team, supporting strategic decision-making for the organization, thought-partnership with the Executive team on operations and strategic planning, and contributing to the organization’s fun, collaborative, and caring culture.

  • Ensure effective internal communications, collaboration, and a culture of philanthropy across teams to advance the goals of Hot Bread Kitchen.

  • Support and actively engage in the principles of Belonging and Allyship across the organization.


Requirements

The successful candidate will be an experienced individual donor fundraiser with a successful history of building effective teams, have a strategic and goals-driven mindset, securing major gifts, developing effective donor engagement strategies, managing events, and have experience working with the executive team collaboratively to secure and steward major gifts. They will bring a passion for relationship-building, data-driven decision-making, and advancing equity through philanthropy.

The ideal candidate will also bring:

  • Progressive experience in individual giving is required, with an ideal tenure of at least 6-8 years.

  • Proven ability to secure major gifts and design comprehensive donor engagement strategies.

  • Strong emotional intelligence and people management experience, including staff supervision and mentoring.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling donor messaging.

  • Strong prioritization, analytical, and organizational skills to enable sound decision-making.

  • Technological proficiency, and comfort with tools used at Hot Bread Kitchen, such as Google Workspace, Salesforce, Asana, and Slack.

  • Passion for Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission and programs.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

This is a hybrid position with the flexibility to work remotely. Regular in-person attendance is required weekly for departmental needs and events, averaging 2-3 times weekly. Our headquarters are located in Manhattan at Chelsea Market (A/C/E/L).


Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$125,000 - $140,000 commensurate with experience.
