Description

Building on its past and current achievements, AFMCP is poised to take its fundraising program to the next level through an investment in development staff and infrastructure, beginning with the addition of a full-time Director of Development. This role will work closely with AFMCP’s Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and consultants to define and implement AFMCP’s annual fundraising plan. This includes planning and executing the annual Evening Under the Sphere benefit and other events, managing and expanding AFMCP’s portfolio of foundation, government, and corporate funders, overseeing AFMCP’s individual giving program, and managing all aspects of the organization’s development operations.

Responsibilities

Include Development Strategy

  • Partner with AFMCP’s Executive Director, Board of Directors, and consultants to develop long- and short-term development strategies, and define annual fundraising priorities, goals, and revenue targets in support of the organization’s annual operating budget

  • Create and implement strategies for all donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities with a focus on identifying new income sources and a goal of growing AFMCP’s operating income Board of Directors

  • Support the Executive Director and the Board of Directors with development efforts, creating and implementing strategies for leveraging directors’ networks and empowering them to act as key spokespeople and fundraisers for the organization

  • Coordinate meetings of AFMCP’s development committee, including creating agendas, and managing task-outs and follow-ups

  • Partner with the Executive Director in board recruitment efforts to ensure candidates are vetted, understand and are capable of meeting AFMCP’s give/get expectations, and are supported and stewarded following their election to the board

Events

  • Oversee the planning and execution the annual Evening Under the Sphere benefit, which raises approximately 35% of AFMCP’s annual operating budget

  • Develop and implement a series of donor cultivation and stewardship events throughout the year Foundation, Corporate, & Government Funders

  • Manage and expand AFMCP’s portfolio of foundation funders, which currently supports approximately 20% of AFMCP’s annual operating budget

  • Manage the creation of institutional funding requests (grant applications) and requisite funder reports

  • Manage AFMCP’s corporate partnerships program, with the goal of expanding AFMCP’s portfolio of corporate funders

  • Cultivate relationships with New York City officials and government funding agencies, and create and steward funding requests

Individual Giving

  • Develop and implement strategies for the cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective individual donors

  • Conduct research on current and prospective individual donors

  • Assess the best opportunities and create strategies to reach individual donors through annual fundraising appeals

Development Operations & Administration

  • Manage the day-to-day administrative aspects of AFMCP’s fundraising program and activities, with involvement and support from AFMCP staff and consultants

  • Create and maintain policies and procedures for development operations, including fundraising communications, prospect research, moves management, and gift processing and acknowledgement

  • Oversee the management of AFMCP’s database (SalesForce), establishing and implementing protocols for data entry and maintenance, and generating lists, exports, and reports

  • Manage internal development meetings, including creating agendas and managing task-outs and follow-ups

  • Partner with the Executive Director in the creation of messaging and content for fundraising materials and communications, including copy for letters, emails, appeals, and acknowledgments

  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, sponsorship decks, strategic plans, and other organizational materials

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing the strategy and implementation of all aspects of traditional nonprofit fundraising streams, including events, institutional/corporate funders, and individual donors

  • Flexibility to work at both a strategic level and manage the day-to-day tasks associated with the implementation of a robust development program at a small organization

  • Experience successfully planning and executing large-scale fundraising events

  • Track record of creating and cultivating long-term relationships with institutional funders, individual donors, and board members

  • Demonstrated success securing new individual and institutional funding and exceeding fundraising goals

  • Experience managing fundraising databases (SalesForce preferred) and developing systems and protocols to ensure organizational data is complete, current, and accurate

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office and Google Workspace suites

  • Excellent communicator and storyteller with the ability to make AFMCP’s work come alive through superior written materials

  • A creative self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a small team

  • A passion for the topics and issues AFMCP’s work addresses, including parks and greenspaces, advocacy, civic engagement, and environmental sustainability

  • Familiarity with NYC agencies and experience working in the public open space sector in NYC preferred

  • Conversational Spanish preferred

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$95,000 - $105,000 annually
