Creative Commons is looking for a writing-savvy, detail-oriented, and proactive Development Manager to manage and help grow our portfolio of funders. The Development Manager will report to the Director of Development. They will be primarily responsible for management of our membership program, the Open Infrastructure Circle. The Development Manager will also support grant writing and administration, prospect research, and donor administration and communications on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

The Development Manager will:

  • Manage the Open Infrastructure Circle, our membership program, leading the expansion of recurring, annual gifts from traditional sources like foundations, corporations, and individuals as well as new streams including but not limited to universities, publishers, and law firms.

  • Provide support on implementation of the annual revenue plan and fundraising activities, including grant writing, prospect research, donor cultivation, sponsorships, major gifts, email communications, and special events.

  • Oversee the range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage proposals and reports to foundation, government, and corporate sources. Manage the fundraising database (Salesforce) and systems (Classy, MailChimp), data entry, and gift processing; maintain and monitor accurate grant calendars and organizational files for all funders and prospects.

  • Conduct cultivation calls and meetings alongside the Director of Development, CEO, and other key CC staff members on a case by case basis. Collaborate with the Director of Development, other Development Manager, and CC team to build, improve, and streamline proposal and administration workflows, boilerplate language, and evaluation and reporting practices.

  • Travel with organization leadership, as needed, to provide support during in-person donor meetings. Assist with other fundraising projects as needed.

Requirements

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years nonprofit experience with a focus on membership programs, grant writing, grants management, corporate giving, and/or digital fundraising.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of foundation, government, corporate, and major donor prospecting practices, grantmaking and reporting cycles, proposal writing, and administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors. Outstanding writing and communication skills in English with a knack for translating complex concepts and jargon into simple, easy to understand language.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce (or other CRMs), Excel, and Asana. Experience developing fundraising campaigns on email marketing platforms with know-how in A/B testing, segmentation, and targeting; familiarity with Classy and Mailchimp are highly desired.

  • Ability to balance deadlines and near-term projects while advancing long-lead efforts.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and teams across different areas of subject matter expertise. Exceptional attention to detail and task follow-through.

  • An interest in CC’s work and legacy, and passion for issues related to open access. Ability and enthusiasm for working in a fully remote and independent environment.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $80,000 and $90,000 USD, commensurate with relevant skills and experience.

Work Environment & Location

Creative Commons is made up of a group of people passionate about open access. We have been a fully-distributed organization since 2015— we have no central office. This position is in a remote working environment. You must be located in the United States or Canada. We require our team to be available for collaboration, meetings, and calls between 15:00-19:00 UTC (that’s 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Eastern, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Mountain, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Central, and 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Pacific).

You must have reasonable mobility for necessary global travel and high-speed broadband access. A laptop and peripherals are supplied.
