Description

As we expand our impact, we are seeking a Development Director to lead and strengthen our fundraising efforts. Position Overview The Development Director will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support both the Black Arts District’s annual operating budget and its capital campaign. This position requires a dynamic, relationship-driven leader with a proven track record in fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing. The Development Director will report directly to the Executive Director and will work closely with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow the organization’s annual giving program to sustain operating budget needs. Develop and execute a multi-year capital campaign strategy for a new construction facility and infrastructure development.

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and government partners. Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including major gifts and planned giving.

  • Oversee grant proposal development and reporting in partnership with program staff. Engage and support the Board of Directors in fundraising activities.

  • Create compelling fundraising materials and communications to articulate the Black Arts District’s vision and impact.

  • Establish systems for donor management, tracking, and reporting.

  • Supervise major gifts coordinator and any other development staff, consultants or contractors that may be later hired.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably in arts, culture, or community development.

  • Demonstrated success in capital campaigns and/or securing six- and seven-figure gifts.

  • Strong grant writing and institutional fundraising background. Exceptional interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, community-centered environment. Commitment to the mission of the Black Arts District and to advancing Black arts and culture in Baltimore.

  • Expertise in managing donor bases, CRM systems, Excel and other relevant software

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$85,000 – $95,000 annually (based on experience).
