Under the visionary leadership of recently appointed CEO Rob Delany and with enthusiastic support from the Board of Directors, BLOCS has recently made major investments across the organization to support a revenue growth target of $300 million by 2028 (which would place BLOCS among the highest revenue-generating nonprofits in the nation).

Responsibilities

These investments are improving mission-critical processes and have significantly expanded the BLOCS team, and Business Development staff are training in a new leveraged sales model. As BLOCS continues its strategic growth, it seeks a dynamic and visionary Chief Business Development Officer to lead and expand various channels of the organization’s fundraising efforts to advance the mission of providing values-based educational opportunities for PreK-12 students.

This role is critical in leading the ongoing evolution of consistent, best practices fundraising systems and processes; driving strategic growth; building lasting donor relationships; fostering a goal-oriented, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and supportive team culture; and securing the resources needed to expand impact.

This senior leader will report directly to the CEO and serve as a key strategic thought partner thereof. They will oversee a team of approximately 14-16 development staff responsible for donor engagement, stewardship, partner events, donor communications, and scholarship support, including individuals who work remotely in major cities across Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will bring a strong record of building and executing fundraising strategies, cultivating major donors, and inspiring high-performing teams in a mission-driven environment.

They will exhibit professionalism and excellent communication skills, have an ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks, possess an ability to take charge, and meet tight deadlines to ensure success. Requirements

While BLOCS will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in development in either the for-profit or the nonprofit sectors with a proven track record of leading fundraising strategies and initiatives and achieving goals; strong track record in sales, sales channel management, and sales force management; experience in frontline fundraising and donor engagement marketing preferred.

  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; comfortable with uncertainty and in leading change initiatives.

  • Strong team management and adaptive leadership skills; track record of coaching and mentoring staff to higher levels of performance and impact, leveraging data-informed decision making and appropriate metrics to track progress and achievement of goals.

  • A passion for education and making a positive impact on the community and a willingness to champion BLOCS mission and vision. Proven success in leading multi-channel fundraising strategies and managing high-performing teams.

  • Strong expertise in donor cultivation, major gift solicitation, and grant writing; familiarity with grant reporting preferred.

  • Familiarity with donor qualification and prioritization processes.

  • Proficiency with donor management software and fundraising analytics; Salesforce experience preferred.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the Pennsylvania philanthropic landscape preferred.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Flexible, reliable, committed to teamwork, and projecting a positive attitude and disposition.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

The annual base salary for this position is expected to range from $215,000 to $235,000, commensurate with experience.
