Neighborhood Villages is searching for a Vice President of Development to play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the organization's fundraising efforts as it approaches its first full decade of service to families and child care providers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Vice President will be responsible for meeting or exceeding the organization's annual fundraising targets by envisioning, designing, and implementing a comprehensive development strategy that aligns with and supports the organization's strategic goals and core values.

Reporting to senior leadership, the Vice President of Development will work closely with and support the organization's leadership team, to sustain and expand Neighborhood Villages' individual and institutional fundraising program. The ideal candidate for this position is a collaborative and experienced senior development professional with a successful track record in cultivating, stewarding, and closing institutional grants, government grants, and individual major gifts and demonstrated experience in relationship management, oversight of development programs and systems, and staff supervision. We seek an individual who will leverage existing and well-functioning processes while initiating new programs that identify additional opportunities for revenue growth and deepen donor engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of Neighborhood Villages’ development program, including major gifts, annual giving, board giving, foundation and corporate giving, government grants, and events.

  • Create and maintain systems to ensure that all donors-corporate, foundation, and individual-are stewarded appropriately for their level of giving and engagement in the organization.

  • Carry a high-impact portfolio of major donors and prospects capable of making five- and six-figure gifts to Neighborhood Villages. Create and manage portfolios for leadership.

  • Partner with organizational leadership in development work, including identifying where their strategic participation is most needed and supporting that participation. Prepare leadership for donor meetings and events and ensure appropriate follow-up.

  • Together with leadership, develop a strategic and multi-year plan for an expanded development program to support the growth of the organization and to increase the percentage of revenue from major gifts. Identify and develop new revenue strategies to ensure the organization is sustainable in the face of continued political and government funding uncertainty.

  • Support board recruitment; identify new candidates that will advance Neighborhood Villages’ development goals. Work closely with individual board members to deepen engagement in the development process.

  • Oversee the management of the development database, leveraging existing systems to their highest functionality and recommending new systems when indicated.

  • Oversee all development revenue reporting. Keep leadership and board informed of progress and trends, areas of opportunity, and potential risks. Ensure meaningful reporting structures that provide information on progress toward goal on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate revenue projections and reporting.

  • Manage and mentor two direct reports with the goal of expanding the team to support the organization's growing needs. Deploy staff to most effectively support achievement of development targets and organizational goals.

  • Manage and provide support for the development committee(s) of the board.

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Communications to ensure alignment of development messaging and organizational communications strategy.

  • Develop and execute strategic fundraising events that advance the priorities of the organization. Ensure that individual and institutional supporters are engaged and stewarded appropriately.

  • Inspire and seek support from diverse communities with a focus on expanding the donor base.

  • Oversee a calendar of strategic donor communications regarding major events, updates on important work, successes of the organization, policy wins, etc.

  • Represent Neighborhood Villages in a manner consistent with Neighborhood Villages' core values and organization policies.

  • Work to inspire a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • At least 10 years of successful fundraising experience with increasing responsibilities, and at least five years in a senior role at an organization with management responsibilities and with a minimum annual operating budget of $5 million

  • A track record of managing a portfolio of donors and prospects. Demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitation of gifts over $25,000

  • Experience with developing and executing annual and multi-year strategic growth plans and successfully meeting the goals articulated in such plans

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to serve as an inspiring spokesperson for the mission and vision of Neighborhood Villages

  • Comfort and facility interacting with directors/board members, major donors, corporate and foundation executives, and other major philanthropic partners

  • A collaborative spirit and the desire and willingness to take initiative, jump in, and lead with confidence

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to think creatively and execute on ways to steward and engage donors at all levels with the work of Neighborhood Villages

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

Neighborhood Villages is committed to providing competitive compensation and benefits commensurate with the professional qualifications and responsibilities of its staff. The salary range for this position is $155,000-$170,000.
