Description
The Director, Digital Fundraising (“Director”) is a strategic leader who will grow Amnesty’s digital fundraising program at a momentous time in the fight for human rights. The role will be responsible for overall supporter lifecycle strategy across email, SMS, web, and other owned digital channels. The Director is skilled at developing and deepening supporter commitment to meet bold conversion, retention, and revenue goals in service of advancing human rights around the world.

The position reports to the National Director of Digital Engagement, works in partnership with the Senior Digital Advertising Strategist, supervises the Digital Production Manager and Supporter Lifecycle Coordinator, and collaborates with teams across Development, Campaigns, Marketing and Communications, and Movement Building and Member Engagement to ensure Amnesty’s digital program is best leveraged to deepen supporter commitment and lifetime donor value. This position handles confidential and sensitive matters and is not covered under the collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities
Digital Fundraising Strategy
Lead Amnesty USA’s digital fundraising strategy across email, SMS, and web by optimizing supporter engagement, donor conversion, retention, and lifetime value
Develop annual revenue goals, forecasts, and growth plans focused on donor conversion, retention, recurring giving, reactivation, and upgrades Identify opportunities to increase fundraising performance through audience segmentation, personalization, A/B testing, and journey optimization
Partner with Direct Mail, Major Gifts, Mid-Level Giving, Monthly Giving, and other fundraising teams to maximize donor value and cross-channel performance
Donor Lifecycle Strategy
Design and optimize lifecycle programs and digital supporter journeys that increase the percentage of activists who become donors and donors who become recurring supporters
Enhance communications through personalization strategies and digital experiences that strengthen supporter relationships and increase lifetime value
Digital Advocacy & Engagement
Oversee digital advocacy campaigns and supporter engagement programs that advance organizational priorities while strengthening fundraising outcomes, including by reviewing and occasionally writing email, web, and SMS copy
Ensure advocacy efforts are integrated into broader supporter lifecycle strategies, creating pathways from action-taking to deeper support
Collaborate with Campaigns and Movement Building teams to maximize supporter engagement and conversion opportunities
Team Leadership
Manage and contribute to the professional development of two staff members overseeing digital production and reporting
Manage consultants and partner with teams across the organization to foster a culture of innovation, including with the Senior Digital Advertising Strategist
Establish department-wide standards and systems to maximize supporter engagement, conversion, and lifetime value, embedding IDEA principles and innovative practices

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Deep expertise in email, SMS, web, and lifecycle marketing strategies that drive donor conversion, retention, recurring giving, and long-term revenue growth
Demonstrated success growing digital fundraising revenue in a nonprofit, political, membership, or subscription-based organization
Experience using eCRM, SMS, web, and analytics platforms to drive measurable fundraising growth (Amnesty uses Engaging Networks, Mobile Commons, and Revolution Online)
Experience setting strategic direction, managing resources, and ensuring effective execution of long-term objectives
Excellent communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills Excellent team, project and budget management skills
Proven ability to embed inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) best practices into both strategy and operations
Experience supporting the professional development of staff members, with a commitment to ensure equitable access and opportunities for underrepresented identities

Requirements
Education and Experience
BS and at least 10 years relevant experience or MA/MS and 8 years relevant experience, and/or sufficient relevant work experience
3-5 years of direct people management preferred
Experience managing high-volume digital fundraising programs generating seven-figure annual revenue preferred
Experience in digital fundraising, advocacy, or campaign management, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
Demonstrative experience in successfully leading digital campaigns that drives revenue and engagement
Proficiency with digital tools such as email marketing platforms (Engaging Networks is preferred), CMS (e.g., WordPress), and other CRM systems and analytics tools
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer
Travel Requirements, Weeknight or Weekend Work
Ability to occasionally travel required, e.g., staff retreats, regional office visits, annual AIUSA conference
Salary Range and Employee Benefits
Salary: $100,199 - $130,131
