Take a Mentor Minute with Zena Lum: November 2026

By: Zena Lum, WOC National Advisory Committee Member and Mentorship Expert

Take a Mentor Minute with Zena Lum is a monthly advice column where Zena imparts expertise to empower mentors and deepen their relationships with their mentees.

Here we are—the final two months of the year. Many of you are in the throes of year-end fundraising, including GivingTuesday planning. If you haven’t already, please consider registering for the upcoming Deconstructing Development session, Ideas to Refresh your Giving Tuesday Strategy, on November 12. This is an exclusive free perk for WOC members.

I am heeding my own advice often shared with my mentees—don’t reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to. So, this edition of “Mentor Minute” is going to be a short one, redirecting you to a blog I came across on Mentorloop.com, “Mentoring Statistics You Need to Know – 2026.” I have a feeling these will also be relevant in 2027 and beyond.

As a side note, one of the things I’ve discovered when I search online for mentoring resources is that there is a plethora of resources and research directed at mentoring youth. Workplace and professional mentoring resources are out there but requires a little more digging (scrolling?). So, I was delighted to find a blog that is not only pretty recent (from July) but also included more than 150 of the “most useful mentoring statistics” to place the importance of mentorship and coaching into perspective.

I am grateful for the many connections I’ve made through WOC’s Mentor Match program. If you are a current Mentor Match and/or Check-in Chica participant, I hope you will renew your WOC membership and participation with the upcoming cohort. I also encourage any member who would like to “pay it forward” by considering becoming a mentor as well. If you have any questions about the programs or the commitment, please message me through LinkedIn, or email me at zena@yfj-consulting.com.
